Question - I cannot speak another language, is this going to stop me from becoming cabin crew?
Answer Not at all, speaking another language is not essential to becoming cabin crew, although it is desirable.

Question - I never got any GCSE's at school will this stop me from becoming cabin crew?
Answer The majority of airlines do understand that not everybody excels at school, but still have the ability to become cabin crew. If you did not manage to gain a GCSE in maths and English but have gained a higher education or plenty of customer service experience then they will still consider you.

Question - Do I have to live close to the airport that I would be based at whilst working as cabin crew?
Answer You will be required to live within a certain distance from the airport you are based at. The majority of airlines set a distance of at least a 60 minute travel time radius. This is mainly because you will be rostered on standby which means that you may get called into work at short notice. Apart from this, it is much better to be close to the airport as there is nothing worse then finishing a 10 hour shift to then have to drive a long way home!

Question - How much would I earn working as cabin crew?
Answer Starting salaries are normally around £14,000 per annum including flight pay. Flight pay is an hourly rate paid to you for every hour you are working away from base.

Question - I have children, will this effect my chances of becoming cabin crew?
Answer No, many cabin crew members have a family. Whilst working as cabin crew you will recieve your working roster for a month allowing you plenty of time to arrange somebody to look after your children whilst you work.

Question - I wear glasses and have heard that I can only work as cabin crew if I have perfect eyesight, is this true?
Answer No, airlines are fine about recruiting people who wear contact lenses or glasses providing these correct your vision to 20/20.

Question - Do I need to complete a course before applying?
Answer Although not having a qualification or training relating to the role of a cabin crew is mandatory. The airlines do prefer to recruit people who have a knowledge of the role they are applying for.

Question - I work full time, how can I complete a training course?
Answer There are now online home study courses being offered. These courses allow you to study from home. They normally contain around 50 hours worth of study material, allowing you to train up quickly before your interviews or applying. Because there are no time limits for you complete the course within, you can study in your own time and at your own pace. If you prefer to attend a training venue, colleges across the UK do run part-time evening courses. These courses tend to run over a period of 6-12 months.

Question - Do I have to be a certain minimum age to enrol on a course?
Answer To enrol on any college courses, you do normally need to be a minimum age of 16. Home study courses do not usually specify a minimum age. However you must be aware of the minimum age set by the airlines when applying to them.

Question - Can I receive funding for any of the courses?
Answer If you are attending a college course as a full-time student then you will not normally be expected to pay for the course fees. If you are receiving any job seekers allowance or benefits, you may find that you are eligible for receiving funding for any of the courses listed under our course section. Question - I do not live in the UK, can I still take a course?
Answer If you do not live in the UK you are able to complete the online Cabin Crew Ticket Diploma Course. Some Universities maybe able to offer international student places.

Cabin Crew Recruitment Questions
Question - When is the best time to apply to be a cabin crew member?
Answer Recruitment drives for the airlines tend to be ongoing throughout the year. Some Charter airlines do tend to recruit higher at the beginning of the year ready for the busy summer season.

Question - What is the minimum age I can apply to be a cabin crew member?
Answer Because of the new age discrimination legislation which came into force from 1st October 2006 all UK based airlines cannot set minimum or maximum age restraints on anybody wanting to work as cabin crew. For any international airlines the minimum age requirement may be set at 18, 19, 20 or even 21 and the maximum could be as low as 32.

Question - Am I too old at 50 to become a cabin crew member?
Answer The majority of the British airlines have an upper age limit of 54. Some international airlines may have a maximum age limit of as low as 32. In our experience, the airlines do look at a more mature applicant as desirable as they will have more life skills to put towards the role of cabin crew.

Question - What happens during my induction course once I am recruited?

Question - Which airline would suit me best?
Answer Deciding which airline you would prefer to work for is a personal decision that you will have to make by yourself. To find the right airline for you, it is best to do some research before applying.
Factors to take into consideration are:
g The size of the company - do you want to work in a small and friendly company or a larger corporate one. g The destinations they offer - Do you want to go for an airline that specialise in short-haul flights, long haul flights or an airline that offers both. g The incentives they offer their cabin crew. g The career progression you can have within the company.

Question - I have already applied to an airline but was not accepted, can I apply to them again?
Answer Normally you can only re-apply to an airline after 6 months of your first application. Many cabin crew that were not successful the first time they apply, go onto be invited to an interview second time round. During the 6 month period it is advised to really focus on building up your customer service experience and knowledge on being a cabin crew member.
