Cyprus is an island of legends that
basks
year-round
in the light of the warm Mediterranean sun. A storied past 10,000
years long has seen civilizations come and go and the likes of
everyone from Alexander the Great to Cleopatra stake their claim
here - but then, people do tend to get possessive when faced with
such
beauty.
Aphrodite made her home on Cyprus, and
travellers throughout
antiquity came here just to pay her tribute.
Paphos is ideal for sightseeing, combining an interesting rocky coastline with the best in laid-back beach life. The resort boasts a fascinating Old Town of winding alleyways, markets and shops. The town itself is really divided into two; a quaint fishing harbour and Old Town, both relaxing and unhurried. Nearby is the harbourside, guarded by a looming Venetian Fort and bordered by open-air terraced restaurants, cafes and bars.
Paphos has plenty of ancient historical sites and monuments, such as the Tomb of the Kings and Roman mosaics. There's a number of small sandy bays dotted in and around the town, many offer watersports. The best curve of sand is at Coral Bay, a short bus ride away. In the evening, the harbour bars and fish restaurants are perfect and there's also Bouzouki clubs and bars around the harbour. The best curve of sand is at Coral Bay, a short bus ride away.

There's a huge range of Cypriot and international cuisine at restaurants, cafes and tavernas. The night-life is equally varied with a selection of discos, bars, nightspots and traditional bouzouki. Whilst for the jet-set, there's also the chance to indulge in the sophisticated pavement cafes and boutique-type restaurants.

Ayia Napa is a holiday hotspot, so be prepared to live hard and fast here. By day, most people head off for Nissi beach, a fabled stretch of silvery sand, but scattered around there are other beaches too, all offering terrific watersports including windsurfing, water-skiing and parasailing.
The fountain in the town square is a lively meeting place, as is the main waterfront where you'll find the many restaurants, bars and clubs responsible for Ayia Napa's legendary active and colourful night-life.

The resort itself spreads over 16 kms of coastline, most of it fringed by stunning bays and little idyllic coves. Watersports and scuba-diving are permanent fixtures, although generally the air is one of unbroken relaxation and tranquillity. You'll find shops, restaurants and tavernas aplenty.
A number of pubs, lively bars and two discos are the source of some friendly nightlife. The friendly, family atmosphere strikes an appealing balance between relaxation and buzz making Protaras an appealing holiday hotspot.
