If you are wanting to use your mobile overseas there are several things you will need to consider.  You must have your phone set to "international roaming".  You will need to contact your mobile phone network provider to ensure that this service is enabled on your phone.

Remember using your current mobile phone network can be very costly overseas.  The main network providers now offer special packages for those travelling overseas.  Two of these network providers Vodafones 'passport' and O2's 'My Europe' are free on request so if you are with these network providers make sure you give them a call before leaving to go out to resort.

Other add on packages may cost a couple of pounds extra a month and remember that they need to be setup 3 days prior to you going away.  So that you can get a better idea of which network offers the best deal we've compiled this list to help you.

Vodafone

Passport - Free upon request, this allows you to pay a flat rate of 75p connection fee when phoning the UK using an overseas Vodafone network, plus your normal tariff rate.

International Call Saver - £2.50 per month for contract users.  This reduces your call charges by 30% and 60% depending on the destination

O2

My Europe - Free upon request, this allows you to pay a flat rate of 35p/min both to make and receive calls within Europe

International Traveller Service - £2.99 per month for contract users (some higher tariffs include this service for free).  This reduces the cost of making and receiving calls by approx. 30%.  This is not worth having in Europe if you have the My Europe service activated.  Yet it is cheaper if you are travelling outside of Europe.

Orange

Frequent Traveller - £2.00 per month for all customers.  This reduces the cost of making and receiving calls between 15-30% depending on where you are calling from.

Travel Talk - £15/£25 pay monthly.  2 different bundles are available and last up to 30 days.  £15 buys you 25 minutes of talk time (60p per minute) and £25 buys you 50 minutes of talk time overseas (50p per minute)

T-Mobile

International Option - £2.50 per month for all customers.  This reduces the cost of  receiving calls by about 30%, although the price of making calls is still the same.  This package also allows you to have cheaper calls overseas when you're in the UK.

Local network providers

Alternatively if you are making a lot of calls to other mobile within the country you are working in, it may be worth considering buying a sim card within resort.  However, make sure that your phone has been unlocked and can work with other sims other than from the network provider you are registered with.

There are various ways of "unlocking" a handset that's locked to a network - most of which involve connecting cables to your phone and using unapproved software, or paying money to unreputable sources - but this is not something that the network operators offer, support, or condone. The correct way to handle this is to contact the network operator that's locked the phone to get an unlock code - there may be a charge for this.

If you need to make a phone call to someone in another country and you are not quite sure how to dial the number, then please use the form below

If your place is not listed, find a nearby city, in the same country

Number:
(if entered this number must be a telephone number (with area code if known) within the country, without the international prefix/number)
